Sourcr Field notes
Shipping and budget

Why does the final shipping price differ from the estimate?

Updated Lire en français

The short answer

An initial estimate uses assumptions. The final amount may use packed-parcel measurements, volumetric weight, selected options and the rate schedule actually applied. Compare those inputs line by line.

Separate a pre-purchase simulation, a shipping deposit and a final invoice. They may be calculated at different times using different information.

Compare the two amounts

  1. Confirm that the destination, currency and service have not changed.
  2. Compare the estimated weight with final measurements and billable weight.
  3. Look for a service option, surcharge or packaging choice added after the first estimate.

Ask for an itemised explanation

Keep both quotes and request the calculation breakdown. If your agent uses a deposit, ask how the adjustment works and where it appears in your account. Explain the difference using the parcel and service details rather than comparing shipping solely with the purchase price of the products.

Frequently asked questions

Is a pre-order estimate enough to determine payment?

It helps with budgeting. The payment requested depends on the agent’s workflow and the measurements it uses.

Does a lower final amount always mean a refund?

Check with your agent how adjustments apply to your particular deposit.
