What is the difference between a tennis racket grip and an overgrip?

A replacement grip wraps directly around the handle and changes the base feel and size. An overgrip goes on top of an existing grip and is thinner, cheaper, and easier to replace.

What should I check before ordering grips from Taobao or 1688?

Check material, thickness, length, quantity, adhesive backing, and buyer comments on durability and sweat absorption. Ask the agent for QC photos of the actual package and grip surface.

How can I tell if a grip will fit my racket handle?

Look at the listed length and width, then compare it with your handle size and whether you are installing a replacement grip or an overgrip. Replacement grips need enough length to wrap the full handle with overlap.

Are cheap grips from China worth buying?

Yes, if you want practice or backup grips and the seller has decent reviews. For daily use, pay more attention to material quality, tackiness, and wear resistance than to the lowest price.

✓Buying tips

Check whether the listing is for a replacement grip or an overgrip. They feel very different, and the thickness changes your handle size.
Look for material details such as PU, synthetic leather, or tacky polymer. Softer grips usually feel better but may wear faster.
Compare thickness in millimeters and weight in grams if listed. Even small changes can affect grip size and swing feel.
Read buyer notes for durability and sweat absorption. Some grips start tacky but become slippery after a few sessions.
For replacement grips, confirm the length is enough to wrap a full handle with overlap. Short grips can leave gaps.
If buying in bulk, check color consistency and whether the seller ships sealed packs or loose rolls.
Ask the agent to confirm the adhesive backing and finish in QC photos, especially for perforated or textured grips.

◎What to check in QC photos

Surface texture is even and consistent, without bubbles, peeling edges, or patchy coating.
The roll or pack length looks complete and matches the listing quantity.
Color matches the listing photos, with no fading, yellowing, or uneven dye.
If it is a replacement grip, check the backing and edge finish for clean cuts and good adhesive coverage.
Look for printed specs on the package, such as material, width, length, thickness, and quantity.
Make sure the grips are not crushed or bent from shipping, since creases can affect installation.

↗Shipping and weight

Tennis racket grips are usually light, often under 200 g per pack, so small parcels are cheap to ship. Airmail or economy lines are usually fine, and there is low customs risk because they are simple sports accessories.

¥Typical price

Typical Taobao and 1688 pricing is about $1 to $8 per grip or pack, with premium tacky or bulk-pack options reaching around $10 to $15.
